Project Overview

  • The Product

: NourishNova is a groundbreaking mobile application that allows users to pre-order their breakfast the night before, ensuring they wake up to a fresh, nutritious meal delivered to their doorstep. The app serves as an interactive platform where users can explore and select from an extensive array of wholesome food options, tailored to cater to a variety of dietary preferences and requirements.

  • The Problem

: The primary problem the NourishNova project aims to solve is the challenge faced by many busy individuals in maintaining a healthy diet, particularly at breakfast, due to lack of time and accessibility to nutritious meals. Furthermore, the project addresses the lack of personalization in most existing food delivery services, which often fail to cater adequately to individual dietary preferences and health goals.

  • The Goal

: The primary objective of the NourishNova project is to revolutionize the breakfast routine by combining the convenience of technology with the benefits of a nutritious start to the day. We aspire to make healthy eating accessible and enjoyable, encouraging individuals to prioritize their well-being without compromising on their busy schedules.

Empathy Maps

What the user says during the interview (Use direct quotes)

user's physical actions during the interview.

Says:

Users often expressed statements like, "I want to eat healthier, but I just don't have the time in the mornings to prepare a nutritious meal." They frequently voiced concerns about a lack of personalized meal options in existing apps: "Most delivery apps have a one-size-fits-all menu. It's hard for me to find options that fit my dietary restrictions."

USER

Does:

During the user interviews, many were seen juggling multiple apps and websites in an attempt to find suitable breakfast options. Others had homemade charts or meal plans, reflecting their efforts to incorporate healthier eating habits into their daily routines.

Thinks:

By observing facial expressions and subtle cues, I inferred that users often felt overwhelmed by the complexities of managing a healthy diet alongside their busy schedules. They thought things like, "I wish there was a simpler way to get a healthy, personalized breakfast without needing to cook or sacrifice sleep."

Feels:

When asked how they feel when trying to place delivery orders through an app, many users expressed frustration, saying, "It's often frustrating and time-consuming, especially when I can't find what I want." On the topic of healthier breakfast options, a sense of resignation was common: "It feels like too much effort for something that should be simple and convenient." These sentiments highlight the emotional strain of trying to reconcile convenience with health, creating a strong desire for a more user-friendly, personalized solution.

User doesn't actually say. but that you can tell through observation. facial expressions a great way to understand what a user is thinking.

You can directly ask "How do you feel when you try to place delivery orders through an app?"

Understanding the User

  • User Research: Summary

: In the initial stages of the NourishNova project, I conducted extensive user research centered around creating empathy maps, a powerful tool that encapsulates what a user says, thinks, does, and feels. These maps allowed me to vividly visualize and understand our target users' needs, preferences, and struggles in relation to breakfast routines and food delivery services.

Going into the research, my assumptions were that users would predominantly prioritize speed and convenience in a breakfast delivery service, while also showing interest in personalized and health-focused options.

After the creation and analysis of the empathy maps, my assumptions were confirmed, but new insights also emerged. While convenience was indeed a key preference as seen from the 'Says' and 'Does' categories of the empathy maps, the 'Thinks' and 'Feels' categories revealed a strong yearning among users for personalization and dietary customization. Users were vocal about their desire for a service that can accommodate their specific dietary needs and wellness goals - an aspect they felt was missing in current offerings.

These insights gleaned from the empathy maps significantly influenced the UX design of the NourishNova app, guiding me towards developing a solution that offers not just convenience, but also caters to personalized nutritional needs and preferences.

Starting the Design

  • User Flow

The path taken by a typical user on an app or a website. so they can complete a task from start to finish.

The user flow should be as simple and intuitive as possible, reducing the number of steps needed to accomplish a task. Always design with the user's convenience in mind.

  • Paper Wireframes

  • Low Fidelity Wireframes

The lo-fi wireframe is based on user flow and highlights key features laid out on the sketches. By expanding on this basis, the structure of the wireframe becomes specific and oriented towards addressing the student's problem statement. With this minimum viable product, I can take it to the execution phase.
